So, I do not have any pictures to share (and my daughter will thank me for that later), but it was a big day (no make that HUGE day) in the Davis household. Madeline pooed on the potty!!!! For any of you who know the nightmare that I went through potty training Owen you will be as elated as I was when this happened. For about a week now Madi has been asking to use the potty and I set her on there about 2-3 times a day but she had never really done anything. Well, today she came up to me and said "Potty...poo" and I went and set her on the pot not really expecting anything but she did it!!!!!

It really takes so little to make me SOOOOOOOOOOO happy.

The weather has been amazing here the last 2 days. Yesterday we spent about 4 hours at the zoo. Today we have been playing in the back yard and had a picnic lunch. Owen made popsicles for us. He used apple juice which is Madis fav so they were enjoyed by all. He is getting so big and has been so much fun. My fav. thing has been how much he is learning at Church. He has been praying at dinner lately and his prayer goes like so "OK, I am going to pray about Jesus. Jesus came to earth to save us from the bad guys who were trying to destroy the world....Amen". As for Madi....well she doesn't stop changing daily. Her new "tricks" are waving bye-bye, blowing kisses, giving high fives and if you tell her to sit down to put her shoes on she really does it. WOW are my kiddos amazing or what??

I caught my babes hanging outreading together and I couldn't resist catching it on film...or at least my memory card. I thought I would give a general update on how everyone is. After about 3 weeks of someone being sick we are all well (enough) now and that is a relief. Owen is 100% potty trained now and I am celebrating like you wouldn't believe. I am so proud of him and he knows it. Every time he goes to the bathroom he asks "Mommy, are you going to be so proud of me". There is always something new with this kid too. I am loving this stage in his life where he is so inquisitive and sweet (at least 30 times a day he says "mommy, I love you". I hope he remebers that when he is 13.

As for Madi, well she was the sickest of the bunch, but is much better now. I took her to the Dr. about a 100 times conviced it was an ear infection but it never was. She just decided at 13 months to go ahead and get all 4 of her 2 year molars. She now has 11 teeth. Not all are completely in but close enough. So needless to say she is ready for steak :) On the eating front it is such a joy to not have to buy formula or babyfood anymore. She loves eating just about everything we do and has yet to pick up her bubbas picky eating. She is also talking a bit. Still no MaMa but here is a list of her favorite words

Christmas, again...and again...and again

Owen had a great time making christmas cookies. the recipe I found made the dough to soft so we had a heck of a time getting them cut out. Also, I couldn't find any Christmas cookie cutters at Meijer so we had flamingos, octupus, dinosaurs and turtle cookies. Thanks to crafty GaGa we did manage to make an angel, and a few snowmen.

Decorating them was for sure the best part.

Madelines favorite part of Christmas is destroying my tree. Thank goodness for plastic ornaments.

Powerless

OK, so many of you mommies know that try as we might there are some things that we are powerless over. Well, this past week I have been put to the test because we have literally been powerless (with out electricity) for 5 days. It has been quite a challenge, but fun at the same time. We have really gotten to know our neighbors better and the kiddos have played outside from sun up to sun down each day. Sorry no pics again, but it has been a crazy week. we are leaving in the morning for Cape Cod so I will have vacation pics when we return.

Obsessions

So, having recently posted that Owen has a mild obsession with Buzz Lightyear I thought I should be put myself out there and talk about a few of my own. There are many I am sure, but here are a list of the current ones.

1. Potty training (there should be a manual)
2. Poo problems (we have delt with them all)
3. Child development (once again, where is the owners manual)
4. Reading (for pleasure believe it or not)
5. Potty issues (who knew that reading Everyone Poops wouldn't solve all our problems)
6. Baby be blessed dolls (babybeblessed.blogspot.com or babybeblesseddolls.com)

To start with the last first these dolls and critters are the sweetest things...anyone need a Christmas present idea Madi would LOVE one of these. They have a free give away over the weekends and I have been hoping to win for weeks now.

OK, so as for the otheres, do you see a theme here? We are well into out potty adventure and some days I see no end in sight. I am sure that one day I will look back on all this and think "Boy that wasn't so bad" but right now I think I might send my kiddo to college in pull ups. (Owen, if you are reading this while in college then I hope you are not in pull ups and I hope you know I love you which is why I am obsessed :) So, if you feel like leaving me a comment about the secret to potty training please feel free to do so. Having spoken with my pediatrician about this numerous times I am convinced that they have a top secret file on how to potty train in 5 minutes and they are just waiting to give it to me until I am REALLY desperate. Just needed to get that out.

So, I was trying to be good today and clean out Owen's closet. You know, out with the old and in with the new. Well...some of the old was his Halloween costume from last year. After arguing with him for 10 minutes over wether or not it would fit he won and got to try it on. As you can see it still fits, and what is dress up time if little sister can't join in. So sorry that we have been MIA for a month now. This summer is flying by and we are trying to take in every minute of it. Madi is SOOO close to crawling. She is up on her hands and knees and rocking back and forth. Boy will my world be rocked when she takes off. She still only has 2 teeth, but judging from her mood I am guessing more are near. She is eating like champ too. We have tried all the fruits and veggies. She even gets some biter biscuits and some puffs (which a friend of ours calls flavored air). As for Owen....he is to smart for his own good. I am continually amazed at how much he knows and how much he talks (like really...he doesn't stop) he even talks in his sleep. He just got his hair cut into a mohawk (or homawk). He wouldn't let me do it, but we went to a kid friendly place and he watched Dora while the lady cut away. He is doing better in the potty department. We are getting there.

Greg had a busy day today. He took off work to take Owen to the ENT and have some fun hang out time. The ENT said Owen's ears looked great and his tubes are starting to come out (as they should). Owen and dad then headed to McDonalds to play and eat pancakes of course. After that they popped in at the pediatrician for Owen's bi-weekly allergy shot. All this followed by a brief tip to Lowes and home for a much needed nap. Then, it was Madi's turn. Greg took her to the pediatrician for her 4 month check up. Doc says she is perfect (as if I didn't know). She is 24 5/8 inches (65%) and 13 lbs 6 ozs. (50%). They gave us the go ahead for rice cereal, even though I have already given her some a few time (bad mommy). She then got her immunizations and came home for a long nap. Madi is in bed now and I think Owen is putting up quite a fight for bedtime tonight (we are now almost 3 weeks into no momo). All this to say the our kiddos are perfect :)

If there was ever any confusion about Owen being Gregs son (funny since they look exactly alike) here is more proof. I couldn't count the number of pics that I have seen of Greg when he was little asleep in random places, like the front porch. Owen has been on a boycott of naps but around 5:00 he just can't seem to stay awake. He passed out just like this in the basement while I was cooking dinner. I am mourning the loss of the nap but hopefully it is not gone for good.

We had a family outing to Newport Aquarium this weekend and I thought I would share a few pics. 2 month check up

I swear I have a picture of Madeline to post, but as the camera is in her room and she is asleep it will have to wait. Friday was Madeline's 2 month check up (after a canceled appointment on Tuesday due to snow) and all is well. She is 10 lbs 6.5 oz and 22 inches long. She is in the 25th percentile for weight so I am not so sure that she really is a Davis :) since Owen has consistently been in the 90th. I think we are making progress in the reflux/colic arena. She has had some good nights lately which is a bonus. As for Owen, well he had a stomach bug (which means he vomited all over my van) but seems to be feeling just fine now. He is such a great kid and big brother. He dotes on Madeline all the time and is very protective of her. The other day we were getting his allergy shots and a lady in the waiting room was talking to Madeline saying how cute she was. Big brother steps in, covers Madeline up and says "Thats my baby sister... you no look at her...mommy take her home now!!" Luckily the lady didn't understand all that he said so I just laughed it off and said how protective he was of her.

We finally got some winter weather around here so Owen and I ventured outside to check it out. It was way to cold but he still wanted to make a "frosty" so I brought some of the outdoors in.

Medical Marvels and Colic

So, for the past 4 weeks we having been trying to figure out what is going on with poor Madeline. She has been having problems with lots of spit up, reflux, and just in general poor times with her little belly. So on Tuesday we had to go have an Upper GI done to rule out piloric stensis. Let me tell you that this was one of the most amazing things I have ever seen. Madeline had a little bottle of barium to drink and then I stood there and watched it go from her mouth to her belly. Thankfully she does not have piloric stenosis but we still haven't really figured out what is wrong. We got really worried when from Friday to Saturday she went from 10 lbs 6 oz. to 9 lbs 12 ozs. However, we were back in the Dr.'s office yesterday and she is back up to 10 lbs. We are currently trying prevacid and the most expensive formula on the market to see if we can't get her feeling better. We go back to the Dr. for her 2 month check on Tuesday so hopefully we will either be much better by then or we can try something else.

Today is a great day!! I have been having some second thoughts about the PhD program I was in and then an issue with the professor I was working for came up and Greg and I decided that I should just quit. So, this means that I get to stay home full time with the kiddos YEAH!! I am really excited about getting to spend more time with the kids and doing lots of fun things like story time at the library and trips to the zoo. I have plenty of time to decide what I want to be when I grow up. Right now I just get to be MOMMY.

1 month check up and general update

Madeline had her one month check up today and Dr. says she is doing well. He have been having some rough nights with a screaming crying fit for about 3 to 4 hours and I was just convinced it was colic. We have tried switching to lactose free formula since Greg and Owen both have a milk issue. However, nothing has seemed to work. After a good once over Dr. determined that she has a slight ear infection in her right ear and gave us an antibiotic. Hopefully this was causing the crying fits and life will be back to normal soon. Since it is 9:00 which is prime screaming time and she is sound asleep in her bed that we have found the culprit and she will be well soon.
I am nervous about this ear infection thing since we had so many problems with Owen. He had an ear infection once a month for about 10 months before he had his first set of tubes. Then we had issues with one of the tubes so he had another set put in and his adnoids taken out all before he was 2. We then had allergy testing which showed us that he is allergic to EVERYTHING and he gets allergy shots twice a week. He has been a totally different kid since we started the shots.
I am also on the search for a good preschool. I have just not been really happy with where he is at right now. They have amazing infant and toddler care, but I think he could use something a little more structured right now. Everywhere I call has a 1 to 2 year waiting list so I am not feeling to good about my search. I am sure that I will find the perfect place soon. If not I am going to open my own preschool.
Just a general update on mom and dad since we never talk about ourselves. Greg has been off work for 5 weeks for paternity leave and he goes back to work next Wednesday. He has enjoyed getting to spend this time with the kids but I think he is looking forward to going back to work. As for me, I started my 2nd semester on my PhD yesterday and I think I am in over my head. I have a tough semester ahead of me and a comprehensive Core exam in May to study for.

So, great thing about living next door to a photographer...free photo shoots. Madeline had an exhausting morning yesterday as we ventured next door for her photo shoot. Paula took some great shots including the cutest little picture of Madelines feet with our wedding bands on her toes and a naked shot with lots of roses. I can't wait to see the pictures. I am sure that they will be tons better than the ones I take, but non the less here are a few I took of her in the dress she wore yesterday. She is going to take some of Owen and Madeline when Madeline is about 3 months. I can't wait for that.

Madeline went to the Dr. this morning and she is up to 8 lbs. 13 ozs. She a bit of a cold with some yucky congestion but otherwise she is perfect. Owen has had a bit of a cough too, but I think his is more allergy related. He is doing great otherwise. Everyday I am amazed by the new things that he learns. He has been singing a lot lately and thanks to Dora the Explorer he sings the following song

He also makes up words and sings them to tunes that he knows. It is so funny.

So, I hate that Rachel Ray says Yum-O but that is all I can say about the culinary master that is my husband. Today Greg made (yes from scratch) New England Clam Chowder and a loaf of French Bread. Now, I have to admit that I was a little tiny bit worried about how things were going to turn out but it was DELICIOUS. I mean seriously I am not just saying that. Santa

"Oh my goodness....Thanks Santa". This is a direct quote from Owen when he saw all the presents that Santa brought for him. This morning was GREAT. Owen had a blast opening all his gifts and although I thought I controlled myself he got a ton of stuff but it was worth it. Madeline managed to get a bit to much too. All in all it was a great Christmas. Hope you all enjoyed your day as well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!!!

Bath time and Christmas Cookies

Here are a couple of pics of Owen decorating Christmas cookies (ie. eating handfuls of icing). He is really excited about Santa coming tonight. I can't wait till morning. Oh, and the pic at the bottom is Owen and I giving Madeline a bath. Madeline is such a great baby. At night she is waking up every 3 to 4 hours to eat and then passing right back out. Today she has been awake a bit more a hour here and there. Owen is being a great helper too.

Here are a few pics to update everyone on how we are doing. Madeline had a bit of jaundice so she had to spend some time in what we called her baby tanning bed, but she is much better now. I too am feeling better. It has been a week and it has flown by. Owen has been the best big brother making sure that we take care of Madeline. I am SO proud of him.

Today is THE day

Just wanted to let everyone know that today Baby Sister (since we still don't have a name picked) is making her grand entrance today. Greg and I will be heading over to my Dr at 1:30 for some paperwork then down to labor and delivery for monitoring and prep for my surgery at 4:00. It is really happening today, but I still can't believe it. I think that we can get a wireless connection at the hospital so hopefully we will have pics up really soon. I cannot wait to meet my little girl and for her to meet her big brother. Here is a little pic of Owen not too long after he was born; almost 2 1/2 years ago.

So, my little girl is teaching me a lesson alreaady. Today at my Dr. appt. they tried AGAIN for the third time to get a reading of my blood platelets but it still didn't really work. This means that my blood isn't clotting right and there are problems that can occur with surgery. Now, I had this problem with Owen too and everything turned out just fine so I am not too worried. What it does mean is that in the next week there will be a little baby girl Davis. I am REALLY excited and REALLY freaked out at the same time. I am supposed to hear from my Dr. today about what the next steps are. It looks like I am going to have to get some steroid shots and once they get in my system they will do an amnio to be sure that her lungs are fully developed and then on to surgery. So, I think my next post will be pictures of baby girl and her big brother.

Bad Mama

So, I have been such a bad mom lately. I know that you all really want to see pics of Owen. But, to be honest I haven't even taken any since Halloween. I know, I know....I will get better some day. Since I don't have any new pics you will have to live with an update on the fam. Owen is doing great. It seems everyday there is something new that he says to does that just cracks me up. As for the baby, she is doing great. We still don't have a name picked out but hopefully we have a little more time to figure it out. So far my surgery is scheduled for December 26th, but I am still hoping that this gets moved up some. I have a Dr. appt today and will know a little bit more after that. I am at the stage where I am going to the Dr. once a week and I am sure that if they have to hear me complain even on 10th of what Greg does then they will certianly schedule it sooner :) I promise to take some new pics of my sweet boy and post them soon and hopefully there will be pics of a sweet baby girl soon too.

Trick or Treat

Here are a few pics of the actual Halloween festivities. Owen had a great time and got a TON more candy. He loved running the neighborhood too.

I promise to post pics soon, but I have to tell you that the basement is getting SO close to being done. Ma and Papa worked thier booties off this weekend and when they left I could hardly believe it was the same place. All the walls are finished and painted, the trim is going up, and thanks to GaGa and Papaw there will be carpet soon. I can hardly believe it. It looks like baby girl Davis will actually have her own room (since her room is currently the spare bedroom/Kat's room/storage.

Trunk or Treat

Owen and some friends went to chruch this weekend for Trunk or Treat. It was a great time. There were rows and rows of decorated cars, TONs of candy, a hot air balloon and hay rides. In the two year old circut it doesn't get much better than that. We all had a lot of fun and Owen was sooooo stinkin' cute in his dragon costume, but as you can see by the sad pic he did not like the hot air balloon.

Hello all, Just wanted to give a quick update on the Davis Family. Sorry I don't have any new pics, but I promise to have some soon. Owen and I traveled to Murray KY this past weekend for my college homecoming. We had a great time and Owen LOVED the parade. It was great to see some of the gals I went to college with and rehash some fun college memories. I can hardly believe that I ever did so much on so little sleep. Owen is doing great. He has a little cold right now, but otherwise his docs say he is doing great (and I would know because we have seen all three of the docs that he goes to). As for me and the babe all is well. At my last appointment I asked about scheduling my surgery (I have to have a C-section again). Well, it looks like we have a tentative birthday. If things work the way the Dr.s are saying then little Miss Davis will be here on December 26th. Thats right, the day after Christmas. We are going to have to work really hard to be sure that we celebrate her birthday proper. Well, more to come soon (with new pics of Owen).

Just wanted to give a quick update on how the Davis Family was doing. Owen is growing like a weed. He looks more like a boy and less like a baby every day. The baby is doing well. My next Dr. appt. is on Oct. 10th and I am hoping they will schedule my surgery then. I am hoping for the first week in December, but what they say goes. Greg is working on finishing the basement, which we hope is done by the time the babe gets here. Well, here are a few pics from the past couple of weeks.... enjoy.

ZOO

Owen and I went to the zoo last week and had a great time. Owen got to see the baby elephant doing exercises with his mommy and he got to ride the train. The elephants were using their big ears to be such good listeners (and I have expolited this concept as much as possible). Also, as you can see from the top pic Owen had a close encounter with the gorillas. He stood there and stared at that gorilla for about 5 minutes and getting Owen to do anything for 5 minutes is a miracle.

Owen has had a big couple of weeks. He went to his first baseball game (GO BATS). While he cared nothing about the game he had a great time at the playground and on the carousel. We ran into a friend of his from school and he played with her the whole time we were there. He also started his allergy shots. For those of you who don't know he had allergy testing a couple of months ago and we found out he was allergic to everything. He goes twice a week for 26 weeks then we go to maintenance from there. He is such a trooper for the shots.

Tonight was the funniest time. He asked to take a baby bath (I told him a while back that when he was a baby we gave him baths in the sink). Well, I think he is a bit to big for baby baths as you can tell by the pictures. He couldn't fit his booty in the sink. Other funny things.... he has been calling his dad "Greg" and "Babe" because that is what I call him. Also, this weekend he started calling me Amber. I quickly reminded him that I am MOMMY!!! He transitioned into the 2 year old room at daycare and is doing well. He has lots of friends in there and in the morning on our way to school he says "I go school....school is cool". I love this kid.

On the baby front all is well. We found out that it is a girl so I have been buying dresses like a mad woman. I went to a yard sale the other day and spent $30 on dresses (in yard sale dollars that equals $300). OK.... I know I know..... here is what you are really here for..... more pictures of Owen.

Here are a few pictures of Owen finger painting. He had so much fun painting and has some great artwork (autographed prints are available for a small fee :). After painting I had him go outside and wash off in the pool. It was too fun.

Owen and I had ice cream cones for snack today. It was so funny because he was so serious about eating it (as you can tell from the faces he is making in the pictures). He loved cookies and cream ice cream.

Bubble Boy

Greg is in a mad rush to finish the basement so that we can move the spare bedroom down there and have a nursery upstairs. He is in such a rush that he hired the cheapest laborer he could find and man is he good. Owen has such a good time helping. He says "Daddy worker.... I worker too". It is so stinking cute.

We went to Holiday World this past Friday and had a BLAST. Owen loves the "water pool" and played in the water most of the day. I was bad mommy and didn't get hardly any pictures. We were too busy playing. Also in the pic with Owen are his cousins Grant and Claire. He had the best time following them around everywhere. When he wouldn't listen to me I would get one of them to tell him what to do and he obliged every time.

Owen got some new Elmo bubble bath (which he thinks is the coolest thing ever). So here are a few pictures of him playing in the bath. He calls himself "Bubble Boy".

Here are a few pics of Owen getting his first lesson in shaving (or at least the first one I managed to capture). He loves watching Greg shave and got in on the action today. After Greg shaved Owen, Owen kept saying "I shave you daddy?" I think Greg decided to wait a few years for that.

Today Owen and mommy washed daddies car for him. Which really consisted of us spraying a lot of water everywhere, making bubbles and pouring buckets of water all over the place. It was fun just the same.

here are a few pics of Owen at the zoo. They have a new spray park there and it is stiff competition for the animals. As for an update on Owen.... He is growing like crazy and talks like a grown man. The other day he was playing in the living room and I called to Greg to come see him. I said "Hey Babe come watch this". Greg came in the room say Owen and then went back to doing the dishes (I had to put that...yes Greg does the dishes). Anyway, Owen starts yelling "Hey babe...Hey babe....mommy, get babe". It was too funny. He makes me laugh about as much as he makes me tell him no which is quite a bit now a days.

We Survived 2 Years

Well, it is official.... we survived two years of parenthood. There were some questionable moments but we made it. Owen had a great time at his birthday party and LOVED all of his gifts. Hearing the Happy Birthday song about 10 times this weekend was a highlight for him and he had the best time helping Gaga make the cake (aka eating icing).

So, I think I have really lost my mind. I had mentioned a few times that Owen really like drums and I might try to get him a set for his birthday, but when I realized how much they were I quickly changed my mind. Well, this morning Owen and I were driving into downtown when I passed a yard sale sign that I couldn't resist. I did a quick U-turn and headed toward it. Once we got there I glanced over the lot and nothing really caught my eye (except a $250 rug, at a yard sale??). However, Owen quickly found something. He spotted a little drum set, pulled up the stool and started his very own concert. As you can see, he won the battle and we now are the proud owners of a small drum set (luckily it is so small that it is not too loud).

I am still not sure how such a little bunny managed to bring so much stuff, but you would have thought it was Christmas around here. Owen's favorite thing the bunny brought was the Nutrigrain bars that he lined up and then smashed. He is still trying to recover from all the excitement of Easter (as am I).

Our Easter weekend has gotten off to a great start. Owen helped make Easter candy and then ate a bunch of it. He got some candy on his fingers and made Gramma lick it off, until he finally tasted it and then he was loving the candy. We are off the church in the morning and then home to cook, dye eggs, hunt for eggs (which I guess will have to be inside since it is freezing out), and who knows what else.
